In the end of March/early April, West Elm started introducing their summer outdoor furniture collection and I absolutely fell in love with the Huron collection
That is, until I saw the price tag. $1,399, oh hellllo! The sofa plus two chairs priced at $499 (each) = way more than I’d ever want to spend on an outdoor patio set. I pinned the set and started scheming. Looking at the frame, I thought it looked a lot like those 80’s aluminum patio sets with the rubber straps, like these
I read the product description and guess what? ‘Rust-resistant aluminum frame’…see where I’m going with this? 😉
I checked Craigslist and found an aluminum patio set with a sofa and two chairs for $60! I can’t deny they were in pretty rough shape, but I figured I’d only be out $60 bucks if the plan didn’t work, no harm, no foul there.
I’ll save the DIY for another post because I’m actually not done yet, but I was so excited after today’s progress I absolutely could not wait to share it.
West Elm’s Huron Chair:
My look a like
I still have some work to do on the seat, but overall this is pretty darn close to what I was hoping for, and I’m so happy with it! Is it an exact replica? Obviously not, but for less than a tenth of the cost of buying it from West Elm, I’d say I did pretty well!
I still have the second chair and the sofa to complete-so I’ll follow up with a finished post in a week or two. It took my mom and I about 4 hours to work through the proper weaving so I’m hoping the next chair goes much quicker.
FYI- the navy huron sofa is now available on clearance for just $699!!
P.S. I’ve been playing around with the image sizes-what do you think of the larger sizes? They seem huge when I draft the post but the smaller sizes seem too small. What do you prefer when reading?
